Excessive NIC collisions occur causing network performance issues, client disconnects and server shares to disappear.

Ensure the correct link speed is set for the NIC in Windows Server and the corresponding speed is set on the network switch.

     1. Open the Network Connections Control Panel tool by pressing the Windows Logo+R, type ncpa.cpl and press Enter.
    
    


     2. Richt-click on the NIC and click Status to determine if the link speed is correct. 

     


     3.  Right-click on the NIC and click Properties if the link speed is incorrect.

     


      4. Click Configure... to the right of the NIC name.

    


     5. Click on the Advanced tab. ..

     


     6. Click on Speed &  Duplex  and select the correct speed if Auto Negotiation is determing an incorrect speed.

     

     7. Click OK to save the changes.


Additional Information:

It is best practice to ensure the latest NIC drivers and firmware have been applied.

This applies to Windows 2003, Windows 2003 R2, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2.
